PADOVAxCHANGE

The +PADOVAxCHANGE project has been approved within the European Scalable Cities initiative. The aim of this project is to develop a Digital Twin (DT) of a part of the Industrial Area of Padua to create a roadmap towards not only zero-carbon goals, but also Positive Energy District, in collaboration with the Municipality of Padua and the stakeholders involved. The DT will be created, validated and used to simulate future scenarios involving the creation of a district heating network (e.g. using waste heat from the incineration plant), increased energy production from renewable sources (photovoltaics) and the development of energy communities. The Municipality of Padua will thus be able to use energy simulations to assess different decarbonisation scenarios and develop a clean energy transition plan. “

The main objective of this thesis is to explore and evaluate the application of digital tools and methodologies for the digitisation of the urban energy sector, with a focus on the creation of urban digital twins for the transition to a zero-emission city. The main objectives include: 1. Development of the digital twin of the Industrial Area of Padua, integrating static and dynamic data and the results of dynamic energy simulations. 2. Validation of the Digital Twin by comparing the energy performance of the selected urban district and simulating the baseline scenario in a test reference year. 3. Identification and simulation of future decarbonisation scenarios and PEDs. 4. Creation of a roadmap for the transition to zero-carbon targets and PEDs. 5. Involvement of the Municipality and stakeholders of Padova

Use of digital modelling tools (IES Suite) to simulate future scenarios and assess the impact of decarbonisation strategies. Involvement of local stakeholders through workshops and interviews for data collection and validation of results. Dissemination and communication.
