Multidisciplinary Approaches and Software Technologies for Engagement, Recruitment and Participation in Innovative Energy Communities in Europe
MASTERPIECE supports the EU’s Clean Energy Package by empowering local energy communities and enabling citizens to actively participate in the energy transition. It offers a modular digital platform that streamlines the creation and management of energy communities across Europe.
The platform uses a user-centric, participatory approach to support financial planning, energy literacy, business models, and regulatory compliance, while addressing challenges like fuel poverty and data privacy.
Tested in four pilot sites (France, Italy, Sweden, Turkey), MASTERPIECE promotes innovative business strategies and strong cybersecurity, enabling a flexible, decentralized energy market that delivers cost savings, emissions reductions, and greater local energy resilience.
MASTERPIECE empowers citizens to actively participate in local energy communities, supporting the EU’s goal for decentralized and democratic energy systems. The project combines social innovation with digital tools to overcome barriers like fuel poverty and privacy concerns, while enabling new business models and flexible, sustainable energy solutions across diverse European contexts.
