LocalRES
Empowering local renewable energy communities for the decarbonisation of the energy systems
LocalRES deploys innovative local energy systems driven by renewable energy communities (RECs) to enable a socially fair energy transformation. The project empowers communities and people to take active control of renewable energy generation, market participation, distribution, and consumption.
LocalRES delivers digital tools that accelerate structural changes in the energy system at multiple levels: increasing the number of small renewable energy producers, creating local energy markets for flexible trading, enabling multidirectional energy flows, and involving consumers in energy system design.
The main goal is to demonstrate TRL8 local energy systems capable of optimizing multiple energy vectors (electricity, heating, mobility) through a Multi-Energy Virtual Power Plant approach, maximizing renewable energy integration while boosting grid flexibility and supply security.
LocalRES fosters the decarbonization and democratization of local energy systems by placing renewable energy communities at the forefront of change. This approach promotes secure, sustainable, competitive, and affordable energy supply accessible to all citizens.
Key impacts include:
- Increasing small renewable energy producers, enhancing generation at the local level.
- Creating optimized local energy markets that enable prosumers to trade energy volumes flexibly.
- Establishing multidirectional energy flows and promoting REC-driven energy services.
- Empowering consumers to actively participate in the energy system and REC design.
- Maximizing replicability and scalability of decentralized solutions for sector coupling.
R2M contributes valuably by supporting the development and implementation of LocalRES digital tools and community engagement strategies, leveraging its expertise in integrated energy system solutions to help realize the project’s objectives.
