DECAFF
Decarbonising Differdange
The DECAFF project aims to accelerate the energy transition through the creation of Virtual Energy Communities, and to facilitate interactions between citizens, public authorities, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and industrial stakeholders. The project incorporates a gamification approach to actively engage participants, encouraging more sustainable and conscious energy behaviors. Virtual Energy Communities serve as a testing ground for energy participation models. The project employs digital tools to make it easier to create and manage Virtual Energy Communities, as well as gamified aspects to increase involvement. Participants can track their progress, earn rewards, and compete in challenges that promote efficient energy use. Additionally, the project includes awareness-raising and training activities to ensure the solutions are understood and adopted. The project is being implemented in Differdange, Luxembourg, and is closely linked to the NetZero Cities and Climaborough projects, which focus on achieving net-zero emissions and building climate-resilient urban communities.
DECAFF addresses the growing need for changes in energy consumption models as a result of environmental challenges and EU policies. Gamification, a key component of the project, serves as a tool for transforming the commitment to sustainability into an enjoyable and rewarding experience. The initiative uses digital technology to encourage active engagement and collaboration among stakeholders, supporting a more inclusive and collaborative energy models. The projected benefit extends beyond mere awareness, with concrete consequences for energy consumption reduction and the adoption of sustainable behaviours. Gamification not only increases interaction but also motivates citizens to make more informed energy decisions, contributing to the decarbonization journey of Differdange.
