CHRONICLE

Building Performance Digitalisation and Dynamic Logbooks for Future
Value-Driven Services

CHRONICLE aims to improve building performance through a holistic life-cycle assessment framework. It supports sustainable design, efficient renovation, and investment decisions for different building types using integrated digital tools.
The project combines existing initiatives such as EPCs, Level(s), and SRI under the Digital Building Logbook concept, using well-defined KPIs from both design data and real-time sensor measurements. This enables continuous monitoring via a digital twin framework throughout the building’s lifetime.
By extending data availability and accessibility, CHRONICLE helps advance EU energy policies and facilitates better energy planning, while pilots in diverse European sites validate the tool-suite’s effectiveness.

CHRONICLE helps all stakeholders understand and quantify the short- and long-term impacts of building projects by providing a robust life-cycle performance assessment framework. This approach supports policy alignment, motivates energy-efficient behaviour, and ensures the needs of diverse market actors are met, including owners and occupants.

Key impacts include:

  • Enabling evidence-based impact assessment across the building life cycle.
  • Supporting policy coherence and informing smart penalty and reward schemes.
  • Engaging market stakeholders such as architects, ESCOs, facility managers, owners, and tenants.

Validating the framework in five diverse European pilot sites.

R2M Italy leads the definition and delivery of the CHRONICLE Dynamic Building Logbook.
R2M Spain collaborates closely in the development and implementation.
R2M’s expertise comes from its prior EU study on the framework for a European digital building logbook, supporting CHRONICLE’s objectives.
